Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce funding decisions for the 2017 UC ANR Competitive Grants Program/High Risk, High Rewards Program. As in past years, the number of requests received exceeds funding available. With 45 competitive grant proposals requesting over $7 million and six high-risk high-reward proposals requesting over another $500,000, we are pleased to be able to support around 25 percent overall.
I want to thank the Strategic Initiative Panels for their work in screening Letters of Intent and the Technical Review Panels for their efforts reviewing proposals for technical merit, feasibility and Extension prior to the review by Program Council. Letters of Intent for ANR’s 2013 competitive grants program are due Friday, July 26. The competitive grants system will accept submissions until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, but technical assistance will be provided only until 5 p.m.
The request for proposals is posted at http://ucanr.edu/cg.
Submitting a Letter of Intent (LOI) is the first step of applying for a grant. Applicants selected to submit a full proposal will be notified by Monday, August 19. Full proposals will be due Friday, October 4.

The 2013 ANR Competitive Grants – Request for Proposals (RFP) will be released on Monday, June 17, 2013. A full announcement, including Web links to the full RFP, will be in ANR Update, on the UC ANR Portal and distributed via the ANR Notification system and other means.
The RFP will seek proposals for projects of 1 to 5 years including small, medium and large projects up to $500,000. Some changes to the RFP are the result of the PACE (Partnership to Advance Cooperative Extension) effort.

I am pleased to announce that the request for proposals for ANR’s 2013 competitive grants program will be released this summer. Tentatively, we are expecting a new call in May or June.
Taking into consideration several comments, we have made a significant change to this year’s competitive grants proposal process. While the proposal solicitation and peer review processes will remain similar to former years, we will enable PIs to select a start date from two possible timeframes (April 2014 or August 2014). Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that ANR’s 2012 competitive grants program will fund 16 projects, for a total of approximately $5 million over 5 years. The awards range in value from $46,226 to nearly $600,000. Last year we funded 19 projects with $4.46 million over 5 years.
